Mark Viers 1953-2021

 

                  









It is with great sadness that I pass this along so close to Christmas. Mark was a great athlete playing football for FH in the early years. He served us in the Army and later as a US Postmaster. He will be missed by us all. Pray for Mark’s family during this tough time.

Mark Phillip Viers, 68, of Palmyra, passed away at 5:51 pm Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at his home in Palmyra, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to a Memorial Gathering and Life Celebration that will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday December 30, 2021, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.
A Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday December 30, 2021, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
Mark was born January 4, 1953, in St. Louis County, Missouri to Ivan Michael and Lucy B. Cleary Viers.
Survivors include his ex-wife Lou Ann Cary (Jenkins); children, Tracy Amber Viers, Jenette Deann Geisendorfer (Jerran); Tina Maureen Viers, Molly Marie Howell (Brently), daughter in-law Christina Viers; grandchildren Sean Ethan Toliver, Ivan Keith Potts, Wylie James Miller, David Ray Geisendorfer, Ava Jo Geisendorfer, Leonard Carl Geisendorfer, Macy Ann Viers, Atlas Alexander Viers, and Isla Joy Viers; brother Dennis Viers (Kathy); sisters Nancy Bauman, Mary Viers, and Jeri Sue Freeman.
Mark was preceded in death by his Parents, 1 son, Evan Michael Viers, 5 brothers, Tim Viers, Jon Viers, Roger Viers, and twins Ivan and Mike Viers, 3 sisters Lucy (Toots) Sammelman, Shirley VanOver and Marie Ferguson.
Mark joined the United States Army to serve his country, after which, he worked for the Veterans Administration in Columbia while achieving his Bachelor of Political Science degree from MU. Mark then began a lifelong career with the United States Postal Service serving in Columbia, Hazelwood, and Quincy, before working in Palmyra where he retired as Postmaster in 2008.
An avid outdoorsman, Mark was thrilled to travel around the United States checking out the scenery and hiking wherever his travels took him. A man of nature he was drawn to the beauty of the outdoors. He liked to be in the know with world events and would always stay up to date on political world scenes. More than anything Mark cherished his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids, never missing an important event in their lives.
